The radial tyres developed by Michelin reduce machine downtime, increase productivity on loaders by providing better grip and decrease fuel consumption by 5-6 per cent on an average. There is a huge opportunity for radials in OTR.

BKT to introduce big size radial tyres

BKT is gearing up to introduce bigger size radials in two years. The company will introduce 49 inch tyre by the end of this year and 51 inch tyre in a year. The 57 inch tyre, which is the biggest size in the industry is expected to be launched in 2016.

Michelin to begin production at Chennai plant

Michelin will start production of tyres in full swing for commercial vehicles from its plant near Chennai. Production at the Rs 4,000-crore plant is on at four of the six tyre-assembling lines. They make about 250 truck and bus radial tyres daily. Two more lines will start soon. The current production is about one-third of the annual capacity of about 300,000 radial tyres for commercial vehicles.

We expect to add another 6-8 retreading plants in the next three years
